Postcard #5 in the series of vintage postcards from Italy.

This real photographic postcard is labeled Capri Panorama. The year on the postmark is unclear so it is difficult to date this postcard. I would guess maybe the middle 60s. The postcard is addressed to my mother, Anita Frieseke and it is from her neighbor, Elsie & Cliff Clemenson.
The message on the postcard reads: “July 21 – A long way from home & Capri is like Carmel only more so – We’re going to see the Blue Grotto today & swim in the Mediterranean. This trip is wonderfully interesting but hard work. There is little time for leisure. We are so afraid we will miss something. We went to an outdoor opera in Rome. That was an experience. The staging was spectacular. We have been in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and now Italy. Still have France and Spain Eng. to do. Elsie & Cliff”.
As mentioned above, the postcard is an actual photograph printed onto postcard stock. It is ‘Super Size’ card, that is 6 7/8 by 5 1/4 inches. The publisher is Vera Fotografia and there is a card number, 22276.

This is the second in a series of vintage postcards from Italy!

This is a real photographic postcard, a view of the crypt of the Capuchin Friars. The bones of the friars were moved from the fiary and arranged along the walls under the church, Santa Maria Della Concezione in Rome. There are over 4000 bodies at this site.
There is no date on this unused postcard nor is there any indication of the publisher. There is a card number, N 697.

Postcard #4 in this series.

The postcards in this series are ones that I have been unable to put into my regular classifications. This is a “real photographic postcard” that is, one that is a photograph printed onto postcard stock – an actual photograph.
Photographic studios made real photo postcards but this one looks homemade so probably is a one of a kind. The circle display of the image is unique – I have not seen any other postcards like this.

Number 3 in the unclassified series.

Another mysterious unclassified postcard. This is a ‘real photographic postcard’ of a house somewhere. The note on the back says: ” This is our House before the leaves was all out. Maggie Hyde”. I know there were Hydes somewhere in may family tree but I don’t even know which side of my family they were on.

This is the second in a series of vintage postcards that defy categorization.

This is a real photographic postcard, unused and undated. The cards in this series do not fit into any of my categories and I have grouped them together as curiosities.
The title of this postcard is Walking from Muskogee to California and the names of the two individuals are Mrs. F. Seary and Mrs. B. Jenkins. There is another name, Greene, probably the photographer. Note the guns the two ladies are toting.
I googled the two names to see if this might have been a famous walk but found no results. If any reader of this post has any idea about this picture, please use the comments section below to let us all know.

The first postcard in a new series.

This is a “real photographic postcard” and it is labled City Hall – But where? A real photo postcard is an actual photograph printed onto postcard stock. You can actually see the word, Velox printed in the stamp area. Velox is a type of Kodak photo paper.
The real question about this postcard is, Where is it? I don’t have a clue. The words, City Hall are on the front of the building with the tower. The card is labeled City Hall also. The sign on the left side is about mens suits but no store name is legible. There appears to be a bay or a lake in the background. Note the horse and wagon by City Hall.
Does anyone know (or think they know) the name of this town ? Use the comment section below to let me know.
This seven card series is about vintage postcards I have been unable to categorize. Help me if you can!

This is the final postcard in the Michigan series.

This “real photographic postcard” was mailed to my Great Aunt, Mame Robinson, in 1930. Real photo postcards are actual photographs printed onto postcard stock. The card is titled, Light House, Eagle Harbor. The post mark indicates that Eagle Harbor is in Michigan.
The message (hard to read but I’ll try) is My Dear Mamie I am on my way to Florencin (?). I brought my car this far and will leave it here and take the boat on to Cleveland and (?) on. I stopped off at Lake (?) . Intending (?) to visit dear Mother Graves. Love Ge. . . (?)
This postcard was published by the Co-Mo Co. of Minneapolis.
A note about the photo – If I had been the photographer, I would have righted the rocking chair by the side of the building.

Postcard #2 in the Quadruped series.

This is a ‘real photographic postcard’, that is a photograph printed using photographic processes onto postcard stock.
The postmark date is 1926 and the card is written by Vivian MacQuiddy to her mother, Emma Englehart. The message on the postcard is, “We are spending a week here in the Giant Forest above Visalia. We have tents on the summer place of friends and do our cooking together in their little Kitchen. It is a marvelous country Last night we saw six baby bears. Love Vivian”.

This real photographic postcard is titled, A Prospector. Photograph is by Goodrich in Yreka, California. The jackass and dog look real, The man looks a little too dressed up to be a real prospector. I wonder if this person took the opportunity to stand by someone’s donkey or if the setup was a photographer’s prop.
A real photographic postcard is printed via photo processes onto photo paper. No printing press involved.
This is the first in a seven card series of postcards featuring quadrupeds. This is to celebrate an upcoming series on Festival of Postcards, a BLOG by Evelyn Theriault. Postcards of a specified subject are solicited from many sources and featured. The Festival of Postcards on Quadrupeds will take place in October.
