Thanks for your comment regarding the Dixie. You answered my questions about the ship and it was interesting to find of its history. Thank you. jf

Morgan Line was subsidiary of Southern Pacific RR. Dixie and two other ships ran from NY to New Orleans. From there passengers would connect to SP trains to west coast.

SS Dixie went aground in a Category 5 hurricane on Labor Day 1935 in the Florida Keys. (my father was a crewman aboard at the time). The Dixie survived the event and was later sold to the US Navy as a ammunition and fuel supply ship.

I had that same question when I posted this postcard. I can't think of anything I know about in Southern California that would have a big B like that. JF

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I would say my collection is varied. I am posting 7 postcards featuring quadrupeds. I sent this one (prospector) to you, I hope I sent it correctly so that you can use it if you want to. If any of the others in this series strike your fancy, let me know and you are welcome to use it/them. I look forward to seeing the quadruped collection.

What a great little series of cards. I was wondering whether you would have anything for this theme so I take it you have quite a rich and varied collection of cards!

Thanks for writing, it is always interesting to find someone with a personal connection to one of these postcards. So far, two people have connected with postcards being written from one of their family members, you are the first to be connected to a postcard producer. Thanks again, Jon Frieseke
